She revealed that at the time, she was just a ninth-standard student and had been shown a reference image of Demi Moore, which she did not find obscene. “I did not even understand what nudity was back then. If you are not sexually conscious, you don’t associate nudity with obscenity,” she said, adding that she had also asserted her virginity in interviews—a statement that many found hard to digest given Bollywood’s perceived stereotypes.
Mamta Kulkarni recently addressed the controversy surrounding her semi-nude photoshoot from the early days of her career. Reflecting on the incident, the actress, who has since withdrawn from the film industry to follow a spiritual journey, defended her younger self, explaining that she was too naive at the time to fully understand the consequences of the shoot.
Recently, in an interview, Mamta opened up about her controversial semi-nude photoshoot for a magazine in the 90s, explaining that she did the photoshoot due to a lack of ‘sexual consciousness.’ Appearing on Aap Ki Adalat, she said, “I was then studying in ninth standard. I was shown a picture of Demi Moore by the Stardust people, which I did not find to be obscene. I also gave this statement at the time that, ‘I am still a virgin’ and people couldn’t digest that because according to them, people do anything to enter Bollywood.”
